Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition characterized by extreme mood swings that can range from high, manic episodes to low, depressive episodes. During a manic episode, an individual may experience elevated or irritable mood, increased energy and activity levels, reduced need for sleep, racing thoughts, grandiose beliefs, impulsiveness, and sometimes risky behavior. On the other hand, during a depressive episode, an individual may experience feelings of sadness, hopelessness, low energy, difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much, loss of interest in usual activities, trouble concentrating, and thoughts of self-harm or suicide. It's important to note that the symptoms of bipolar disorder can vary in intensity and duration, and can be different for each person. It's also possible to experience mixed episodes, where symptoms of mania and depression occur at the same time.
