The national flower of Algeria is Wall Iris, also known as Iris Tectorum (scientific name). [1] It belongs to the Iridaceae family and subfamily of Limniris. It is mostly found in Burma, Algeria, and other parts of Asia. [2] The flower is 7.6–10 cm (3–4 in) in diameter, and the flattened horizontal flowers are larger than Iris japonica flowers. [3] It is self-fertile, but is pollinated by insects or birds. It flowers between September and October in Australia, and the flower display can last for 2 weeks. It is poisonous, but is used in Chinese herbal medicine for the treatment of hepatitis. [1] The Volunteer State, which is the nickname of the Tennessee state, also accepts Iris as its national flower due to its interesting and amazing properties.
