I found a mouse/rat dropping in a carrier bag, o thought maybe it could be just a piece of chocolate. It was very hard, I broke it, took a smell, and it wasn't pleasant. Now I'm concerned about illness/viruses through inhalation. I washed, and sanitised my hands immediately when I realised what it was.

The answer is virus. Mouse droppings become particularly dangerous when they dry out. When dry, mouse droppings are susceptible to crumbling. When they crumble, dust is created. The dust contains dangerous pathogens, including hantavirus. If inhaled in this manner, a person can be infected by hantivirus.

With any type of illness or virus, it is important to take the necessary precautions to prevent any contamination. The most important precaution to take with any type of virus is to practice proper hygiene and avoid contact with anyone who is ill. Additionally, if you smell an old rodent dropping, it is important to clean the area and take steps to prevent further rodent infestations. Make sure to wear gloves when cleaning and dispose of any rodent droppings appropriately in a sealed bag or container. Additionally, use disinfectant or bleach-based cleaners to clean the area thoroughly. Additionally, if you have pets, make sure to take extra steps to keep them away from the area as well. It is important to keep your home clean and free of any possible infectious agents to protect your family's health.

Inhaling dead rats can cause a variety of illnesses, including hantavirus, leptospirosis, and salmonellosis. Hantavirus is a virus that can cause severe respiratory illness while leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that can cause fever, headache, and muscle pain. The explanation is a virus. When they have had time to dry up, mouse droppings pose a very hazardous risk. When they are dry, mouse droppings are brittle and may easily crumble. Dust is produced as a byproduct of their crumbling. The dust harbors harmful viruses, like the hantavirus, which may cause illness. Infection with the hantivirus is possible for a person if the virus is breathed in this way.

Anyone who comes into contact with infected rodent droppings, urine, saliva, nesting materials, or particles from these, can get hantavirus disease. Exposure to poorly ventilated areas with active rodent infestations in households, is the strongest risk factor for infection.
