For me, I guess anything is beautiful which has intrinsic value in it. A diamond is valued at a very high price because they are rare but surely there exists many things which are more beautiful than a diamond but they are not so rare hence inexpensive, and hence materialistic value can not define how beautiful anything is. Beauty is something which is highly subjective I guess. From what I have learned from some sources is that what we call as beautiful is something different and varies from person to person. Just like people like to eat foods according to what their taste buds love, beauty is also something which is already defined in our brains and what might be beautiful for one might not be the same for others. I guess it is totally a psychological thing, and depends on how we were raised and how our perceptions has been constructed while growing up!
The meaning of beautiful for me is not the physical or outer appearance that you see. To be beautiful it should go within the person. What is the real character of the person that they should show to anyone not just show and pretend? You should show the beauty in your character or personality that no one can see right away until they need to know more on who you really are.

So, beauty for me, is a person or a scene or anything that touches my heart. A person is beautiful if their nature is nice, if they have a laugh which can make you smile just by the radiance of it, if they are kind.
(That, doesn't mean that a person who's sad isn't beautiful. Of course they are, I just used easy ways to explain above.)
I would call a lot of people as pretty, cute, gorgeous; depending on how they look like. But Beautiful is not just a word for me, it's a whole emotion I only dedicate to someone I hold dear or care about.
In general terms, everyone is beautiful until I know them. If I met them and got to know they are rude and mean, their persona and looks will automatically reduce in my vision. They won't be lovely for me anymore.
