A computer virus is a malicious program that replicates itself and infects other programs or files on a computer. Once a virus infects a system, it can perform various malicious activities, such as stealing sensitive information, modifying or deleting files, and crashing a system.
A virus can spread through email attachments, downloading infected files from the internet, and sharing infected files through removable devices, among others. It can also exploit vulnerabilities in a system to propagate and establish control over it.
To protect ourselves from a computer virus, we can take the following measures:
- Install and update antivirus software regularly to scan and detect viruses on our system
- Keep our operating system and software updated with the latest security patches to fix vulnerabilities
- Exercise caution while clicking on links or downloading files from untrusted sources
- Avoid using public Wi-Fi networks or connecting to suspicious networks
- Enable firewalls to prevent unauthorized access to our system
- Regularly backup our data to protect against data loss in the event of a virus attack.
