An old Chinese custom called for the feet of women to be bound to prevent growth. This practice, known as foot binding, involved tightly wrapping the feet of young girls to inhibit their natural growth and produce a smaller, more delicate foot shape, which was considered attractive in traditional Chinese culture. However, foot binding was extremely painful and debilitating, leading to lifelong physical deformities and health issues for those subjected to it.
