McGinley Square is the best bet if you are in search of budget rental houses in the Jersey City. You may get one as low as $1200 per month there. Another neighbourhood for budget homes is West Side area where you may get rental houses for a monthly rent of around $1400 - $1500 followed by the Journal Square and the Heights for a monthly rent of $1500 - $1600 plus.

Hackensack Riverfront. There you can rent a house for $1400. It is a place with less crime rates and safer than other neighbourhoods in Jersey City. I recommend Hackensack River Greenway area which is great for a walk along the riverside.
