Newark's food truck scene is fantastic, with some real gems, especially around the Ironbound district. You should definitely find The Lomo Truck. Its Peruvian lomo saltado is talked about for a reason. Ferry Street is the spot for incredible, authentic tacos. You'll usually see a few different trucks there, and you really can't go wrong with any of them for al pastor or carne asada. And don't overlook the classic Jersey hot dog carts. Finding one that serves deep-fried rippers is a true local experience. Just remember that locations can shift, so a quick look at their social media before you go is always a good idea.
You absolutely have to find the El Lechon de Negron truck. Their slow-roasted Puerto Rican pork is incredible, but you will need to check their social media for their location since they move around. For a completely different experience, look for the Hamburgao truck, which serves massive Brazilian-style burgers loaded with toppings like corn and potato sticks.
Generally, the best area to explore is the Ironbound district. Walking around Ferry Street will lead you to several great taco and churrasco trucks. A solid strategy is to just pick the one with the longest line of locals waiting.
Newark has some excellent food trucks. You should definitely find Taste of Brazil On Wheels for incredible picanha and other Brazilian barbecue. Another must-try is Empanada Guy; their beef and chicken empanadas are local legends. For great plant-based food, The Green Room is always a solid choice.
