The US state of Oklahoma was the last state to declare Christmas a legal holiday, in 1907. Prior to this, Christmas had been celebrated as a religious holiday in the US, but it was not recognized as an official holiday until Oklahoma made it so.

Oklahoma was the last US state to declare Christmas a legal holiday in 1907. This was due to the fact that Oklahoma had only recently become a state and was influenced by the progressive movements of the time. After declaring Christmas a legal holiday, Oklahoma became known as the "Christmas State."
