The country in Africa that got her independence first was Ethiopia, in 1941.

Ethiopia is a country in the Horn of Africa. It was the first African country to gain its independence, in 1941, after a five-year war with Italy. Ethiopia is the oldest independent country in Africa and one of the oldest in the world. It has a long and rich history, and is home to some of the earliest hominid remains ever found. It is a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural country with a population of over 100 million people.
