As of 2021, a total of 24 people have walked on the moon as part of the Apollo missions conducted by NASA between 1969 and 1972. The first man to ever set foot on the moon was Neil Armstrong during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969, followed by 11 more astronauts over the next three years. The last human to leave the lunar surface was Gene Cernan during the Apollo 17 mission in 1972. Since then, no human has visited the moon, although there are plans for future manned missions in the coming years.
