The smallest planet in our solar system is Mercury. It is also the closest planet to the Sun. Its size is about 3,030 miles (4,880 kilometers) in diameter, which makes it about two-fifths the size of Earth. Mercury is a rocky planet, similar in composition to Earth's moon.
Due to its proximity to the Sun, it has a very hot and barren surface, with temperatures reaching up to 800 degrees Fahrenheit (430 degrees Celsius) during the day and dropping to -290 degrees Fahrenheit (-180 degrees Celsius) at night.
Despite its small size, Mercury is still a fascinating planet and has been the subject of numerous scientific studies and missions.
