Famous Funnies is considered the first true comic book, and it was published by Eastern Color Printing Company in the United States. The first issue of Famous Funnies was published in 1934 and featured a collection of comic strips from newspaper syndicates, such as "Tarzan," "The Katzenjammer Kids," and "Mutt and Jeff." The success of Famous Funnies led to the creation of other comic book titles, and the superhero genre emerged in the late 1930s with the debut of characters such as Superman, Batman, and Captain America.
