The character Green Lantern first appeared in All-American Comics #16, which was published by DC Comics in July 1940. The original Green Lantern was a character named Alan Scott, who was created by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. Alan Scott was a railroad engineer who discovered a magical lantern and ring that gave him superhuman powers, allowing him to fight crime and injustice as the Green Lantern. The character was later reinvented in the 1950s as part of DC Comics' Silver Age of comic books, with a new Green Lantern named Hal Jordan and a science-fiction origin story involving an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps.

Created by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell, the character of Green Lantern has undergone several iterations throughout the years.

The original Green Lantern, Alan Scott, was a railroad engineer who discovered a magical lantern and crafted a ring that allowed him to control the power of the lantern. In 1959, the character was reinvented as Hal Jordan, a test pilot who is chosen by a dying alien to become a member of an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps.

Since then, there have been several other characters who have taken on the mantle of Green Lantern, each with their unique powers and abilities.
