The planet that was downgraded to a dwarf planet in 2006 is Pluto. Prior to 2006, Pluto was considered the ninth planet of our solar system. However, during the 26th General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) held in Prague, Czech Republic, a new definition for a planet was adopted, which led to Pluto's reclassification. According to the IAU definition, a planet must meet three criteria: it must orbit the Sun, it must be spherical in shape, and it must have cleared its orbit of other debris. Since Pluto did not meet the third criterion, it was reclassified as a dwarf planet.
