The first person to land on the moon was Neil Armstrong, an astronaut from the United States. On July 20, 1969, during the Apollo 11 mission, Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the lunar surface, famously uttering the words, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." His fellow crew members, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins, were also American astronauts. Together, they achieved this historic feat as representatives of NASA, the United States' space agency.
