Prior to Andy Murray, the last British tennis player to win the men's Wimbledon championship was Fred Perry in 1936. He won three consecutive Wimbledon titles in 1934, 1935, and 1936. Perry was a prominent figure in British tennis in the 1930s and also won multiple Grand Slam titles in both singles and doubles events.
