The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month attained a special significance in the post-war years and became universally associated with the remembrance of those who died in the First World war.  The conflict mobilised over 70 million people. In November, the Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted the allied terms of unconditional surrender.

Remembrance Day is held on November 11th each year to commemorate those who died in the line of duty during the First World War. The date was chosen to mark the armistice that ended the war on November 11th, 1918. The day also marks the anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot, which occurred on November 5th, 1605.

Remembrance Day is held on 11th November every year because it marks the end of World War I. The Armistice agreement between the Allied Powers and Germany was signed at 11 am on 11th November 1918, indicating the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front. Since then, this day has been commemorated as Remembrance Day to honour the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the service of their country during World War I and subsequent wars. It is a day to remember and pay tribute to all those who have lost their lives in wars and conflicts and to ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten.
