Poseidon is the God of sea. Nereus and Proteus (the "first") seem to be two manifestations of the god of the sea who was supplanted by Poseidon when Zeus overthrew Cronus.

The Greek god of the sea was Poseidon. He was one of the twelve Olympian gods, and was often depicted wielding a trident and riding a chariot pulled by horses, often sea horses. As the god of the sea, he had powers related to storms, earthquakes and horses, and was worshipped by sailors and seafarers.
