Only seven plays of Sophocles have survived, which are Antigone, Oedipus Rex, Oedipus at Colonus, Ajax, Electra, Philoctetes and Trachiniae. Despite the loss of the majority of his works, Sophocles is regarded as one of the greatest playwrights in Western literature. His surviving plays continue to be performed and studied today.
