The Philippine eagle, also known as the monkey-eating eagle (scientific name: Pithecophaga jefferyi), holds the title for being the largest species of eagle in the world. However, if we are talking about the smallest species of eagle, that distinction belongs to the South Nicobar serpent eagle (scientific name: Spilornis klossi). It is found in the Nicobar Islands, which are located in the Indian Ocean. The South Nicobar serpent eagle measures around 16 inches (40 cm) in length and has a wingspan of approximately 3 feet (90 cm). Despite its small size for an eagle, it still possesses impressive hunting skills.
