In most forms of volleyball, including indoor volleyball and beach volleyball, it is a violation if a player touches the net with any part of their body while the ball is in play. This is known as a "net fault" or a "net violation". The net fault can be called on a player if they make contact with the net with any part of their body, including their hair or clothing, or if they reach over the net to play the ball. If a net fault occurs, the point is awarded to the opposing team.
