A binturong, also known as Arctictis binturong, is a mammal native to South and Southeast Asia. It belongs to the family Viverridae, which includes civets and genets. The binturong is a large, arboreal species with a stocky build, long bushy tail, and coarse black fur. It has several unique characteristics, such as a prehensile tail that aids in climbing, strong paws with sharp claws, and a distinctive scent gland that emits a musky odor. Binturongs are primarily nocturnal and spend much of their time in trees, making them excellent climbers. They have a diverse diet, feeding on fruits, leaves, small mammals, birds, eggs, and even carrion. While not considered endangered, binturongs are threatened by habitat loss and hunting.
