The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded in Norway. The prize is one of several awards established by the Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel, and is awarded annually to individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to promoting peace and social justice around the world. Although Nobel was Swedish, the peace prize has been awarded in Norway since 1901, as Norway and Sweden were in a political union at the time the prizes were established.
