After being defeated in 1814, Napoleon was sent to exile on the island of Elba, which is located about 10 kilometers from the coast of Tuscany. He spent about 10 months on the island before escaping and returning to France to try and regain power. However, he was eventually defeated again at the Battle of Waterloo and exiled to the island of Saint Helena in the South Atlantic, where he died in 1821. Today, Elba is a popular tourist destination known for its beaches, hiking trails, and historic sites.
