What is the difference between dominant and recessive traits in genetics?

Dominant traits are those that are always expressed, even if only one copy of the gene is present. Recessive traits are only expressed when two copies of the gene are present. This means that if an individual has one dominant and one recessive allele, the dominant trait will be expressed.

Dominant traits are expressed when an individual has at least one copy of the dominant allele, while recessive traits are only expressed when an individual has two copies of the recessive allele. Dominant alleles mask the expression of recessive alleles. Inheritance patterns can be more complex with incomplete dominance, codominance, and sex-linked traits.
