The first President of Brazil was Deodoro da Fonseca. He served as President from 1889 to 1891, following the proclamation of the Brazilian Republic and the overthrow of the Brazilian monarchy. Fonseca was a military leader and played a key role in the coup that ousted Emperor Pedro II and established the Republic. However, his presidency was marked by political turmoil and he was eventually forced to resign in 1891.
