Jo Frost & Glenn & Joey Lynn George putting Savannah on the naughty step when she is too old for it is one of the many reasons why the Supernanny episode “The George Family” was criticized. Those who criticized the episode felt that 10 years old is too old to be disciplined with that technique and that she should have been disciplined with either the Reflection Room or the privilege removal board.

What do you guys think? Do you guys think that Savannah deserved to be on the naughty step and that naughty step timeouts are for naughty children aged 2-17 or do you guys think that putting 10-17 year olds like 10 year old Savannah on the naughty step is child abuse. If you indeed think it’s bad parenting, do you think the George family’s neighbors should have reported this, that Jo, Glenn & Joey Lynn could have faced charges, that they could have been arrested and that Glenn & Joey Lynn could have gotten all of their children (including Krissy) taken away from them?

The use of a "naughty step" or time-out as a disciplinary technique for children varies in effectiveness and appropriateness depending on factors such as age and temperament. Discipline should prioritize a child's well-being, safety, and emotional development, and different approaches work for different families. Determining if a technique crosses into child abuse requires considering context, intensity, frequency, and the child's overall well-being. If a disciplinary technique causes harm, exceeds boundaries, or violates regulations, it may be considered abusive. In cases of concern, seeking assistance from professionals is important to ensure the child's safety and well-being.

Putting a child on the naughty step can be a disciplinary method. whether it's right or abusive depends on the context, consistency, and whether it respects the child's dignity and emotional well-being.
