For the best sunset views in New Jersey, you have to face west. The Atlantic-facing beaches are for sunrise. Your most iconic choice is Sunset Beach in Cape May, where the sun drops directly over the Delaware Bay.
The bayside of any barrier island, like Long Beach Island or Island Beach State Park, also provides stunning, unobstructed views over the water. For a different perspective, the waterfront in Highlands offers incredible sunsets with the Sandy Hook Bay in the foreground.
Because New Jersey's coastline faces east, the best sunset views are found on beaches that look west over a bay, not the Atlantic Ocean.
Cape May is famous for this, especially at Sunset Beach, where you can watch the sun drop right into the Delaware Bay. For a similar experience, almost any town on Long Beach Island has public access points on its bay side that are perfect for sunset watching.
The western shore of Island Beach State Park provides stunning, unspoiled views over Barnegat Bay. Further north, waterfront areas along the Raritan Bay, like those in Highlands and Keansburg, also offer beautiful westward-facing vistas for the evening sky.
