Electrons gain energy through the light absorbed by the leaves in the process of photosynthesis. Light posses microscopical particles known as photons, and this particles will excite the electrons present in the photosystem, making them reach a high-energy level state.

Electrons in the light reactions get their energy from sunlight. The light is absorbed by molecules such as chlorophyll, which then transfer the energy to the electrons. The electrons are used to power the chemical reactions of photosynthesis.
