How do sea otters keep from drifting apart while they sleep?

Sea otters (Enhydra lutris) are known for sleeping while floating on their backs. To prevent themselves from drifting apart while they sleep, they will often hold hands or wrap their arms and legs around each other. This behavior is called "rafting" and helps keep the otters close together.
