Tobacco and potatoes were brought back to Europe from the Americas by Spanish explorer and conquistador, Francisco Pizarro. He first encountered the plants during his expeditions to Peru in the early 1500s and brought them back with him to Spain. Tobacco and potatoes quickly spread throughout Europe and soon became popular throughout the continent.
