The famous artist who was shot and wounded by Valerie Solanas in 1968 was Andy Warhol. Solanas was a radical feminist and writer who had previously been associated with Warhol's art studio, The Factory, but had become angry with him over a script she had given him to read. On June 3, 1968, she entered The Factory and shot Warhol and art critic Mario Amaya. Warhol survived the attack but was severely wounded, and he suffered physical and emotional effects from the incident for the rest of his life. Solanas was arrested and later sentenced to three years in prison for the shooting.
