Many scientists have studied motion and it's properties because of it importance to life. The Italian, Galileo Galilei, who lived from 1564 to 1642, did the first systematic study of motion. Also, notably, Sir Isaac Newton did more detailed work on the study of motion.

The first systematic study of motion is attributed to the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle (384-322BC). In his work "Physics", Aristotle formulated his theory of motion, which distinguished between two types of motion: natural and violent. Natural motion was seen as a result of an object's inherent properties, while violent motion was caused by an external force acting on the object.

Isaac Newton is popularly remembered as the man who saw an apple fall from a tree, and was inspired to invent the theory of gravity. If you have grappled with elementary physics then you know that he invented calculus and the three laws of motion upon which all of mechanics is based.

The first to do a systematic study of motion was the Greek philosopher Aristotle. He is credited with developing the concept of motion and its associated laws, including the law of inertia. He also developed the concept of potential and kinetic energy, which are still used today.

The first person to do a systematic study of motion was Galileo Galilei. He was an Italian astronomer, physicist and engineer, sometimes described as a polymath, from Pisa. Galileo has been called the "father of observational astronomy", the "father of modern physics", the "father of the scientific method", and the "father of modern science".
