Wyoming Territory was the first to grant women the right to vote in the United States. This occurred in the year 1869. Wyoming's territorial legislature passed a bill on December 10, 1869, that granted women suffrage, making it the first government in the world to officially recognize and grant women the right to vote. The legislation was signed into law by Governor John A. Campbell, and Wyoming continued to lead the way in women's suffrage, becoming the first state to grant full voting rights to women when it entered the Union as the 44th state in 1890.
