South America is closest to Antarctica. South America is located just south of the equator and is separated from Antarctica by the Drake Passage. Australia is located in the Southern Hemisphere, but is much further away from Antarctica than South America. Africa is located in the Northern Hemisphere and is much further away from Antarctica than either South America or Australia.

The continent closest to Antarctica is South America. The southernmost point of South America, specifically the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula, is located closest to the northernmost point of the Antarctic mainland. The Strait of Magellan and the Drake Passage separate South America from Antarctica, making it the most accessible continent in terms of proximity to the Antarctic region.
