Phalanges (singular: phalanx) refer to the bones that make up the fingers and toes in human beings and animals. The phalanges are long, thin bones located in the digits of the hands and feet.
In human hands, there are three phalanges in each finger (except for the thumb, which has two) and two in each toe. They are arranged in a pattern of proximal (closest to the body), middle, and distal (farthest from the body) bones and are connected by joints.
The phalanges play an essential role in gripping and grasping objects and are vital for our body movements.
