The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the United States from France. The statue was designed by French sculptor and its metal framework was built by Gustave Eiffel, who also  designed the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

The Statue of Liberty was gifted to the United States by the country of France. 

The statue was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and its metal framework was built by Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, famous for his work on the Eiffel Tower. 

It was constructed in France in the 1880s, then disassembled and shipped to the US in 214 wooden crates, and reassembled on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. 

The statue symbolizes freedom and democracy, and has become one of the most iconic landmarks in the United States and around the world.
