In the wake of the September 11 attacks, the United States government created the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on November 25, 2002. The DHS was established to help prevent terrorist attacks, manage national emergencies, and protect the country from both domestic and foreign threats. The department includes a variety of different agencies, such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the United States Secret Service, and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), among others. The creation of the DHS was a significant restructuring of the U.S. government, aimed at improving the country's ability to prevent and respond to potential threats to national security.
