While Mexico is not known for its primates, there are actually four species of monkeys that can be found in the jungle regions of southern Mexico. These four species are:

1. Howler Monkey: This species of monkey is named for its distinctive loud, low-pitched vocalizations that can be heard for miles through the forest. They are arboreal and live in groups in the canopies of trees.

2. Spider Monkey: This monkey is famous for its long, spindly limbs and prehensile tail that allows it to easily navigate through the trees. They are also arboreal and live in large groups of up to 35 individuals.

3. Squirrel Monkey: This small, agile monkey is named for its squirrel-like appearance and behavior. They are found farther south in Mexico, near the border with Guatemala.

4. Capuchin Monkey: This monkey has a distinctive white or cream-colored fur cap on its head, hence the name. Capuchin monkeys are known for their intelligence and are often used in scientific research and as service animals for people with disabilities.

All four of these monkey species are classified as New World Monkeys, and are the only monkeys found in the wild in Mexico.
