humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae). Humpback whales are known for their impressive size and can reach lengths of up to 50 feet (15 meters) and weigh around 25 to 40 tons. These magnificent creatures migrate to the warm waters of Mexico, particularly along the Baja California Peninsula and the Gulf of California, during the winter months for breeding and calving. They are known for their acrobatic behaviors, such as breaching and tail-slapping, and their hauntingly beautiful songs.
