Women’s boxing was introduced as a non-demonstration sport at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
The 2012 Summer Olympics in London marked the first time that women's boxing was included as an official event. Three weight classes were contested: flyweight (up to 51 kilograms), lightweight (up to 60 kilograms), and middleweight (up to 75 kilograms). The 2012 Olympics also saw the first female boxing referee, British official Len Ganley. Since then, women's boxing has been included in every Summer Olympic Games.
