Guy Fawkes was a member of a group of English Catholics who attempted to assassinate King James I in the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. He was arrested and executed for treason. In the UK, Guy Fawkes Day is celebrated each year on 5 November to commemorate the failure of the plot.
