The Rastafari movement is a religion originating on the Caribbean island of Jamaica. It emerged in the 1930s and is based on a belief in the divinity of Haile Selassie, the former emperor of Ethiopia. Rastafarians also believe in the importance of natural living, respect for all life, and a rejection of Babylon (Western society). The movement has had a significant cultural and political impact in Jamaica and has spread to other parts of the world.
