Montserrat is the Caribbean island that was devastated after the dormant Soufriere Hills Volcano erupted in 1995. The eruption caused widespread destruction on the island and forced the evacuation of thousands of residents. The volcano continued to erupt intermittently for several years, causing further damage and making many parts of the island uninhabitable. Even today, the effects of the eruption are visible on the landscape of Montserrat, and the island is still recovering from the disaster.
