Spiro Agnew resigned as Vice President of the United States in 1973 after being charged with fraud and accepting bribes. Richard Nixon then nominated Gerald Ford to fill the position of Vice President. After confirmation by both the House of Representatives and the Senate, Gerald Ford became the 40th Vice President of the United States on December 6, 1973. Ford later became the 38th President of the United States after Richard Nixon's resignation in 1974.
