Which animal is said to bury its head in the sand?

The phrase "burying your head in the sand" is usually associated with the ostrich, who is incorrectly believed to bury their head in the sand when they sense danger. In reality, ostriches do not do this; they have excellent eyesight and hearing and are known to either run away or defend themselves in the event of danger. This misconception likely arose from the fact that ostriches do lie on the ground and bury their heads to tend to their eggs or to rest.

The ostrich is said to bury its head in the sand. This is a myth, however, as ostriches do not actually do this. Instead, they will often lie low to the ground and remain still when they feel threatened, giving the impression that they are burying their heads in the sand.
