In Greek mythology, Achilles was killed by an arrow to the heel. The story goes that Achilles' mother, Thetis, had dipped him in the river Styx when he was an infant, making him invulnerable everywhere but the heel by which she held him. As an adult, Achilles was killed by an arrow shot by Paris, the prince of Troy, which struck him in the heel and caused him to die from the wound.
