The Portuguese Man-of-War is not a single creature, but rather a colonial organism made up of four types of highly specialized polyps (zooids) that work together to function as one animal. It belongs to the phylum Cnidaria, which also includes jellyfish and coral, and is found in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. Despite its name, it is not a true jellyfish but is closely related to them. The Portuguese Man-of-War's long tentacles can cause painful stings to humans, and precautions should be taken when swimming or handling them.
