The Greek playwright known for his tragedies is Sophocles. He wrote over 120 plays throughout his lifetime and is considered one of the three greatest ancient Greek tragedians, along with Aeschylus and Euripides. He is best known for his plays Oedipus Rex, Antigone, and Electra.
